Seeing Renewable Energy Potential in Lombok
RakyatDigital. Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has the potential for new renewable energy (EBT) which can be developed for electricity. Variety of EBT that can be developed from biomass, solar power, wind power, to waste.
Indonesia and Denmark collaborate to find out the potential of EBT in Lombok further. The pre feasibility study is also presented to explain the advantages of each EBT potential.
"This is how to increase EBT in Lombok," said Danish Ambassador to Indonesia Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen at Gran Melia Hotel, South Jakarta, Thursday.
Secretary General of the National Energy Council (DEN) Saleh Abdurrahman said that the potential of EBT in Lombok is quite promising. He also invited Danish investors to use EBT on Lombok.
"Lombok can optimize regional potential that can be increased in the energy mix," Saleh said.
KPMG Bjarne Bach consultant in his presentation explained the advantages of each of the EBT potentials in Lombok. The potential of green energy that can be utilized for electricity in Lombok is one of them is the biomass that is utilized from rice husk which is commonly found in eastern, central and western Lombok.
Furthermore, solar power is also very abundant due to the intensity of the sun on Lombok. The average solar power that can be used as electricity is 3.3-5.6 kWh / m2. Then for wind or wind power it is also possible in the southern part of Lombok with an average wind speed of 6-7 m / s.
"The average wind speed is 6 m / s," Bach said.
Besides that, the problem about waste is also a challenge. It is estimated that there are 900,000 tons of industrial and household waste every year that can be used for electricity.
In terms of electricity generation capacity that can be utilized from biomass in Lombok by 20 megawatts (MW), 20 MW solar power, 50 MW wind power, and 25 MW waste.
The capital needed to build a power plant varies. To build a Waste Power Plant (PLTSa) capital is needed around US $ 150-225 million or the most expensive among other energy sources. With this capital, the electricity produced can be sold at a rate of US $ 13.9 cents / kWh.
Then for the Bayu Power Plant (PLTB) the investment needed is around US $ 75-100 million with electricity tariffs of US $ 11.8 cents / kWh. As for the Solar Power Plant (PLTS), an investment of US $ 20-30 million is needed at the same rate as PLTB and Biomass Power Plant (PLTBm) with an investment of 40-60 million biomass power plants (PLTBm) at a rate of US $ 11.8 cents. / kWh.
Of these investments, the internal rate of return (IRR) or the largest return on project capital is in the PLTBm with a range of 4-24%. Then PLTS 7-14%, PLTB 7-16%, and PLTSa 2-15%.
